Lakeshore Records release Trevor Morris's score for Emerald City. Swept up into the eye of a tornado, 20-year-old Dorothy Gale is transported to another world - a mystical land where an all-powerful ruler governs over one kingdom, has outlawed magic, and faces not only the wrath of a growing cauldron of witches but a looming disaster brought on by a mythical force... Trevor Morris is allowed to flex his creative muscles with his score for Emerald City. Over the course of this album's 34 tracks (1 hr, 08 min, 25 sec) there are so many interesting and intricate themes that even though I've listen to the score well over a dozen times, I'm still finding new segments that I seem to have overlooked on previous listens. Obvious highlights include 'Dorothy and Lucas'; and 'I've Come to Take You Home'. 'The Great Wizard of OZ' briefly brought to mind David Arnold's work on Casino Royale (2006); and The Yellow Brick Road reminded me of both James Horner's work as well as the track 'White Heart' from James Newton Howard's score for Snow White and the Huntsman (2012). In fact Horner's melancholic music seems to be the main inspiration throughout the score - every now and then you'll hear a segment that evokes the spirit of his work. It's an impressive score with tons of memorable segments to discover and enjoy. 8 Darren Rea Buy this item online
