Lakeshore Records release Jonathan Bengta's original music for David Lynch: The Art Life. The movie explores Lynch’s art, music, and early films, shining a light into the dark corners of his unique world and giving audiences a better understanding of the man and the artist... David Lynch is either a ground breaking auteur... or the master of weird... depending on your point of view. Personally I've never been a fan and have never understood the appeal of his work. To me it's self indulgent and weird for the sake of being weird (yes, I'm expecting death threats for that comment). But there's no escaping the fact that what he does he does incredibly well. Fans of his work will love the chance to get inside Lynch's head, a little more, with the documentary David Lynch: The Art Life. Jonatan Bengta provides the soundtrack, which is suitably and predictably weird. Of the 20 tracks (41 min, 33 sec) on display here there wasn't a moment, let alone a track, which I'd want to play again. While I can see it would work well in the film, it just sounds a little flat when taken out of context. Fans of Lynch and the documentary will no doubt lap this up. While I appreciate what Bengta was tasked with having to achieve, the whole experience just left me feeling a little bored. One score which just doesn't work outside the medium it was composed for. 2 Darren Rea Buy this item online
