Lakeshore Records release The Wizard of Lies soundtrack which includes music by composers Evgueni Galperine and Sacha Galperine. The film examines Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme – his deception, lies and cover-up, all as the financier’s wife and sons are catapulted into a harsh and unrelenting spotlight. A modern take on a scheme that dates back to the 1920’s called for a score that blends both modern and classic elements to tell this tragic tale of what led to a scheme toppling and the subsequent aftermath...

Evgueni Galperine and Sacha Galperine deliver a technically interesting score for Wizard of Lies, but it won't be to everyone's taste. The album contains 17 tracks (38 min, 20 sec) and it's a little clinical, a tad too atmospheric and overall not very memorable. In fact I switched off so many times listening to this and in the end I had to stop everything I was doing and go and lie down in a darken room to ensure I was giving it my undivided attention. It didn't matter though, I still found it a little boring.

Now, for the movie it no doubt works its magic, giving much needed atmosphere to the onscreen action. It's just that it does very little for the senses when listened to on its own merits.

This is another one for fans of the movie only.
