Ahead of Mo Pitney's European Tour (26 August - 09 September 2017) Curb Records release his new album, Behind This Guitar, onto the UK market. The LP was originally released in October 2016 in the USA. It's a traditional Country album that will please both hardcore old timers as well as a younger audience... While I'm not a huge fan of Country, I do like to listen to the occasional modern album in the genre. So, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that almost all of the songs on this album I easily embraced on the first play through (and they just get better the more times you listen to them). There's a slight twang of Glen Campbell and Chris Young that comes through in Mo Pitney's deep tenor voice, which is oddly soothing to listen to. Over the course of this album's 12 songs (42 min, 18 sec) Pitney tackles numerous subjects from bumping into an ex-girlfriend ('Clean up on Aisle Five'); exploring how pets have a way of working their way into your heart ('It's Just a Dog'); and the reality, woken through a dream, that you could easily lose the ones you love in an instant ('Love Her Like I Lost Her'). The only track I didn't really care for was the preachy 'Give Me Jesus'. It's a strong, memorable album that's worth giving a chance even if you're not a huge fan of Country. Pitney may just make you realise what you've been missing all these years. 9 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
