Whitehorse's breadth encompasses a driving Americana image with psychedelic surf, arid border rock, lo-fi ingenuity and icy '80s sparseness. Their new LP, Panther in the Dollhouse, brings another twist to Whitehorse’s studio approach with the addition of NYC hip-hop production duo Like Minds (Kanye West, Snoop Dogg), as well as the return of Gus Van Go and Werner F as producers/engineers... Panther in the Dollhouse delivers another 10 tracks (35 min, 22 sec) from Whitehorse, who throw their musical net far and wide to bring us an album that is greater than the sum of its parts. Listening to this album for over a month, on and off, I have to admit that I'm still constantly surprised at how well structured this release is. There's pretty much something here for everyone. And, as the album grows with you, your favourite track is constantly shifting, until you realise that at one point or another, almost every song has been your "favourite" track at some point. It's deep and intense; varied yet focused... This is an album that's retro sounding at times, with a foot firmly placed in the future. They don't come much more impressive than this. 9 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
