Sony Classical release Philip Glass's score for Jane. Drawing from over 100 hours of never-before-seen footage that has been tucked away in the National Geographic archives for over 50 years, Academy award nominated director Brett Morgen tells the story of Jane Goodall, a woman whose chimpanzee research challenged the male-dominated scientific consensus of her time and revolutionized our understanding of the natural world... Philip Glass uses a broad array of musical styles and themes to bring us what on first listen appears to be a rich and multi-layered score. 'Time of Discovery' reminded me in style of Carter Burwell's music on Being John Malkovich. In fact it's a theme he returns to a number of times throughout the score, including 'The Proposal'. But on balance Glass delivers numerous themes and set pieces over the course of 15 tracks (57 min, 53 sec). While interesting and rather touching in places, it's not really one that stays with you. I enjoyed it, but there wasn't enough memorable or engaging tracks to make it worth revisiting. Probably one best heard in the film it was intended for. 6 Darren Rea Buy this item online
