Walt Disney Records releases the soundtrack to Coco. The film features an original score by composer Michael Giacchino, a song by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, and additional songs co-written by Germaine Franco and co-director and screenwriter Adrian Molina. Despite his family’s baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz. Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colourful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Héctor, and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history... The soundtrack to Coco is an interesting one, the 38 tracks (1 hr, 18 min, 53 sec) being a mix of original songs from the movie and Michael Giacchino's score. Those that have followed Giacchino's work over the years will be pleased to hear that he tries something a little different here, focusing on creating a sound designed to conjure images and encapsulate the spirit of Mexico. If I had one issue with the soundtrack is that the song 'Remember Me' is just too present here. It's a good song but not that good that it can be repeated numerous times, even if each time it appears it's presented differently. I know why it's used so often in the movie, but I can't help feeling that a few different songs wouldn't have gone amiss. For young fans of the movie this will be a welcome addition to their music libraries. 7 Darren Rea Buy this item online
