Gothenburg singer Sumie releases her new album Lost In Light released on 11/10 through Bella Union. On 2013’s eponymous debut, Sumie tapped into the mid-point between Scandinavian and Japanese folk music to deliver an album of blissful restraint, its quietude shaped by a combination of parenthood and natural inclination. The follow-up is an album of stealthy dynamism, drama and mystery, its impact made all the greater because it skirts obvious routes to dance just out of hand’s reach, always seeming to be on the verge of departure... Lost in the Light is an interesting album, a laid back affair that you'll get the most out of if you let it wash over you. It takes its influences from far and wide and the end result is a mix of mellow pop-folk mixed with indie sensibilities... Tracks like 'Pouring Rain' showcase Sumie's vocal talents off to their best. Her range is impressive and if you're not hypnotised by her voice then you're probably deaf. The album contains 9 songs (40 min, 15 sec) and if you like your music to stir something deep with in you, to relax and engage your mind, then it's worth giving this album a shot. 8 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
