CBS Television Studios release the original score of the CBS All Access series Star Trek: Discovery. The album, features the score by Emmy Award-winning composer Jeff Russo and is distributed by Lakeshore Records. The series follows the voyages of Starfleet on their missions to discover new worlds and new life forms, and one Starfleet officer who must learn that to truly understand all things alien, you must first understand yourself. The series features a new ship and new characters, while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers... Jeff Russo's music for Star Trek: Discovery is good, but not great. It's not as memorable as previous show's in the Star Trek franchise have been. I've been listening to this for over a month now and while I do enjoy it, there's not a whole lot of memorable music here and the main theme feels a little flat - but then it's got hard acts to follow. The themes are big and bold, just not overly memorable. The album contains 21 tracks (52 min, 47 sec) and isn't really one I'd recommend as a standalone album. The music is best heard where it was intended in this instance - in the show. And it's hard for me to say this, as over the years I've collected the scores to all the Star Trek movies and shows. Discovery is a very different beast - being mostly atmospheric tracks that make you sit up and take notice. 5 Darren Rea Buy this item online
