Sony Classical release the original soundtrack to Molly's Game, featuring music by Daniel Pemberton. The movie is based on the true story of Molly Bloom, an Olympic-class skier who ran the world's most exclusive high-stakes poker game for a decade before being arrested in the middle of the night by 17 FBI agents wielding automatic weapons. Her players included Hollywood royalty, sports stars, business titans and finally, unbeknownst to her, the Russian mob. Her only ally was her criminal defence lawyer Charlie Jaffey, who learned that there was much more to Molly than the tabloids led us to believe... Daniel Pemberton delivers something a little different to his usual score (All the Money in the World; The Awakening; Blood; Dirk Gently; The Game; Heroes and Villains: Attila the Hun / Napoleon; King Arthur: Legend of the Sword). The album opens with a number of electronic themes. These work well and it's hard not to instantly warm to them. The rest of the score is comprised of more stripped back themes, which are entertaining, but I can't really say it's an album I'll be playing much in the future. 'All the Beauty in the World' is probably this album's standout track. It's an instrumental rock anthem heavy on electrical guitar, and represents a beautiful mix between electronic and more classical music. 'Molly's Journey' is a more subtle version of the same theme. While technically flawless, this is one score that's best heard in the movie it was composed for. I did enjoy it, it's just that as a whole I doubt I'll be returning to it again. However, I have saved a handful of themes to a playlist. 7 Darren Rea Buy this item online
