They Might Be Giants release their new album I Like Fun, an LP that is packed with vitality and the startling point of view of these Brooklyn originals as they draw on themes of dread, death and disappointment - while still managing to release an abundance of upbeat and positive sounding tracks... Of this album's 15 songs (40 min, 52 sec) straight away I was instantly hooked by 'Let's Get This Over With'; 'I Left My Body'; 'By The Time You Get This'; 'Push Back the Hands'; and the closer that really does leave you wanting more 'Last Wave'. For a band that has released 20 studio albums since 1986 their songs are still, surprisingly full of energy and positivity that only comes from people doing what they truly love doing. This energy is infectious and it's hard not to come away from this release buzzing and grinning from ear to ear. There are possibly slightly less instantly accessible tracks than on their last three albums Glean (2015), Why? (2015) and Phone Power (2016), but there really is something here for everyone and those songs that you don't warm to on the first play you'll slowly be won over by the more you listen to them. It's another upbeat and engaging release that proves that They Might Be Giants are still very much at the top of their game. 10 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
