The Orchard release the original score to Flower, featuring music composed by Joseph Stephens. Rebellious, quick-witted Erica Vandross is a 17-year-old firecracker living with her single mom Laurie and mom's new boyfriend Bob in L.A.'s San Fernando Valley. When Bob's mentally unbalanced son Luke arrives from rehab to live with the family, Erica finds her domestic and personal life overwhelmed. With Luke and her sidekicks Kala and Claudine in tow, Erica acts out by exposing a dark secret of high-school teacher Will, with perilous results; their teenage kicks become a catalyst for growing up in unexpected and unpredictable ways... Joseph Stephens releases an interesting modern score for Flower. While it might not be packed with memorable themes it does have a soul running throughout the tracks. While some might be turned off by the atmospheric nature of these 14 tracks (24 min, 30 sec), I'm sure fans of the movie will find much to embrace. More an EP than a full blown soundtrack release, it does mean that the music doesn't outstay its welcome. There is only so much atmospheric background music you can be exposed to before you've had enough... and then the album steps it up a gear. The second half of the score includes some memorable tracks like 'Turning Point'; 'It's Not Murder'; and (my personal favourite) 'The Chase'. These help to set this album apart from the standard electronic scores. There's a heart at the centre of these nuggets, but whether it's worth adding to your soundtrack collection is debatable... 6 Darren Rea Buy this item online
