Grammy award-winning American Roots band Old Crow Medicine Show release their new LP, Volunteer. The album was recorded at the historic RCA Studio A and is yet another fine example of how Old Crow Medicine Show remains one of the most vibrant and forward-thinking traditional bands of their time: Not only have they recently reinterpreting Bob Dylan’s seminal album Blonde On Blonde, but have also collaborated with pop sensation Kesha... It goes without saying that this isn't an album that will be universally accepted. It's one of those releases that you're either going to love or loathe. If you don't like Country then keep walking, there's nothing here for you. For their legions of fans, these 11 songs (37 min, 50 sec) will reaffirm why you fell in love with the band in the first place. Even if you're not a follower of Country, you'll quickly pick up elements taken from decades of music. It's not that this album is cliched, it's just that there are certain standards in the genre and Old Crow Medicine Show tap that rich vein of content to produce something that sounds new and fresh, but with plenty of nods to what has come before and one foot firmly planted in the past. While it doesn't deliver anything groundbreaking, nor does it really break with tradition, if you're a collector of American roots music, you'll find much to enjoy here. 5 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
