Varèse Sarabande release Laurent Perez Del Mar's original score to I Kill Giants, which includes the previously unreleased track 'Under the Stars' by London Grammar and original song 'Something So Strong' by Rasmus Walter. Teen Barbara Thorson is the only thing that stands between terrible giants and the destruction of her small town. But as she boldly confronts her fears in increasingly dangerous ways, her new school counselor leads her to question everything she’s always believed to be true... I really loved Laurent Perez Del Mar's deep and rich score for I Kill Giants. It's diverse and multi-layered and, most importantly, it's engaging and extremely memorable. There are elements of gothic mystery, that fans of Danny Elfman's work on Tim Burton's films will appreciate (particularly in tracks like 'Barbara'). And 'I Kill Giants' reminded me of Rob Simonsen gorgeous score for The Age of Adaline. Tracks like 'Everything Is Gonna Be Alright' are beautifully subtle, reminding me of James Horner's work on film like The Pagemaster [1994], Bicentennial Man [1999] and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids [1989]. I loved this album from the first play through. Now, several weeks on and numerous listens, I appreciate it even more. It has just about everything I look for in an enjoyable score: moments of beauty, uplifting themes and, most importantly, vast amounts of melancholic music that washes over you and transports your thoughts elsewhere. Tracks like 'The Forest' manage to cram all of these elements in - which is no easy task. In fact 'The Forest' once again brought to mind the work of Horner. The album contains 17 tracks (53 min, 05 sec) and is the perfect example of a score which is greater than the sum of its parts. If you randomly pick a track, sure it sounds great, but it has more of an emotional impact if you play the album from the start, as a lot of the subtleties are slowly built on as the music progress. This is a rich, varied, wonderful score that you'll be listening to for years to come. 10 Darren Rea Buy this item online
