Varèse Sarabande release the soundtrack to Life of the Party with an original score by Fil Eisler and a party-filled compilation of songs by artists including Meghan Trainor, Evie Sands, Cyndi Lauper, The Sugarhill Gang and Chick Norris. When her husband suddenly dumps her, longtime dedicated housewife Deanna turns regret into re-set by going back to college... landing in the same class and school as her daughter, who’s not entirely sold on the idea. Plunging headlong into the campus experience, the increasingly outspoken Deanna - now Dee Rock - embraces freedom, fun and frat boys on her own terms, finding her true self in a senior year no one ever expected... For those that have seen and enjoyed Life of the Party, the soundtrack album is the perfect musical souvenir. I'm not normally a fan of soundtracks which mix score and various artists tracks, Life of the Party just about manages to get away with delivering something that movie goers will enjoy. It opens with Cyndi Lauper's classic 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun', which is a great opener, before randomly throwing in parts of the score and other artist tracks. While most of these are instantly forgettable, run-of-the-mill Dance tracks, they capture the flavour of the film. I did find the mix of tracks a little odd (Fil Eisler's score is sprinkled throughout) which means that what could have been the summer's essential road trip soundtrack will see you skipping through the score. While Eisler's music is functional, it's not really overly noteworthy. The only track that stood out was 'Quitting School'. Overall, a middle of the road, unsurprising soundtrack.
