Decca Classics release the soundtrack to On Chesil Beach, featuring original music by Dan Jones. The soundtrack also features a number of classical music pieces by Rachmaninov, Schubert, Elgar and Mozart. Adapted by Ian McEwan from his acclaimed novel of the same name, On Chesil Beach centres around two young spouses, Florence – a violinist in a string quartet, and Edward – a graduate student of history, on their honeymoon on the dramatic coastline of Chesil Beach in Dorset. However, the hotel is old fashioned and stifling, and underlying tensions between the young couple surface and cast unexpected shadows over their long-anticipated wedding night. The film shows how the entire course of a life can be changed by a gesture not made or a word not spoken... Dan Jones's score for On Chesil Beach is seamlessly interwoven with familiar pieces of classical music. There are some beautiful themes running throughout this album, most notably on tracks like 'Walk from Henley'. The score is performed by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and features violinist Esther Yoo quite prominently. It's a gorgeous score that is multilayered. It's not often you come across a collection of music tracks that could so easily be Classical music in their own right, but that's what Jones delivers here. A beautiful soundtrack that is well worth buying - even if you haven't seen the movie. Track listing: 01 - Dan Jones - Talking to the Birds
