Little Twig Records release the soundtrack to The Gospel According to André, which features the film’s original score by Ian Hultquist and Sofia Hultquist (also known as Drum & Lace). The documentary, about the life and career of renown fashion editor André Leon Talley, takes viewers on an emotional journey from André’s roots growing up in the segregated Jim Crow South to become one of the most influential tastemakers and fashion curators of our times... It doesn't matter if you have seen The Gospel According to André or not. It's not a film I'd personally be interested in seeing, mainly because I have very little interest in fashion and have no idea who anyone in the industry is. What matters here, as far as this release is concerned, is whether the soundtrack makes for an interesting listening experience on its own merits... and it does. What Ian Hultquist and Sofia Hultquist have crafter here is an album that is far greater than the sum of its parts. There are so many themes, so many little touches, that it will take you quite a few listens to truly appreciate what has been crafted here. There are so many genres and musical styles touched upon that it's pretty obvious why at least two composers were required. I think, out of the 29 tracks (44 min, 01) here 'My Escape, My World' was the one stand out track. Other notable pieces include the very subtle, yet haunting 'More than a Prince'; 'YSL'; and 'Don't Give Up the Dream' (which in spirit reminded me of John Barry's score for Chaplin). An interesting score that stands on its own merits. 8 Darren Rea Buy this item online
