Milan Records has released the original soundtrack to King of Thieves, with music by Benjamin Wallfisch. The film tells the incredible true story of the spectacular Hatton Garden diamond heist, the biggest and most daring in British history... If you're a fan of '60s suspense movies then Benjamin Wallfisch's score for King of Thieves will be one you'll get a blast out of, especially if you love big band. That's not to say this is a kitsch, out of date sounding score. Wallfisch captures the spirit of the genre and drags it into the present. The musical voice of the police investigation is inflected with spacey electronica. The main heist is a re-working of Tchaikovsky’s 'Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy' as played by a big band. If your heart doesn't quicken and a smile spread across your face when listening to 'Sugar Plum Raid', then there's something wrong with you. Over the course of this album's 16 tracks (42 min, 15 sec) Wallfisch really gets to dabble in numerous styles. There's adrenaline pumping chase music in tracks like 'Police Sting', reworkings of classical music in the aforementioned 'Sugar Plum Raid', with the majority of the score sounding like a modern John Barry Bond score. The most engaging track on the album is easily 'Reader Arrested', which showcases the composers ability to compose beautiful and moving themes. This is a score that works beautifully as a stand alone album of wonderfully engaging music. 9 Darren Rea Buy this item online
