Lakeshore Records release the soundtrack to the thriller, Assassination Nation, which features an original score written by composer Ian Hultquist. High school senior Lily and her three best friends live in a world of selfies, emojis, snaps and sexts. But when their town of Salem is besieged by a massive data hack, resulting in half the citizens’ private info spewed into the public view, the community descends into anarchy. Lily is targeted after being falsely blamed for the hack - and bands together with her friends to survive a long, blood-soaked night...

One thing you can't do is accuse Ian Hultquist's score for Assassination Nation of being boring or bland. Over the course of these 24 tracks (1 hr, 08 min, 01 sec) the composer touches on numerous genres and styles which keeps the music fresh and interesting.

Talking about the score, the composer said: "It was definitely an interesting challenge, and it became a pretty long process of exploring different ideas to find the right tones. I experimented with a wide spectrum of genres including ambient, Western, thriller, horror, trap, and delicate orchestra. It was pretty wild! In the end, I think there is an influence of all of those in the music, much like America is an influence of so many other cultures."

The end result speaks for itself. This is a wildly diverse score but it's somehow tied together quite coherently. 'I'm Not The Monster You Think I Am' is one of this album's highpoints, opening with a beautifully melancholic theme which slowly, but perfectly, ambles along. Even the ambient, background themes, like 'Slay Em High Killa', have bags of character. The whole thing closes with the rather bizarre sound of a school band playing Miley Cyrus's 'We Can t Stop'.
