Silva Screen Records presents composer Blair Mowat’s distinctive soundtrack to BBC’s third Doctor Who spin-off, Class. The series tells the story of students and staff at Coal Hill Academy, who save London from alien threats; Whovian space monsters are set against teenage inner demons. Tackling adult themes, violence is more graphic then in Doctor Who, the body count rises as the season progresses and there are more adult themes and material... Blair Mowat delivers a completely different feel with his score for Class. This is nothing like Doctor Who or Torchwood, but that's hardly surprising given the fact that the series, while set in the same universe, stands on its own two feet. Mowat bombards us with so many themes over the course of its 43 tracks (1 hr, 19 min, 10 sec) that it's hard to know where to start singing its praises. You want a heavy guitar rock-based theme? 'Dragon Attack' will quench your thirst. This is followed by 'Reflections', which is polar opposite in style and the switch in pace works beautifully. Listening to this numerous times over the course of a week the one track that always managed to grab my attention was the beautifully melancholic 'April's Past' There's so much to discover and enjoy here that it's not just a score for fans of the show, but for all collectors of quality soundtracks. 9 Darren Rea Buy this item online
