Review imageI'm quite a fan of sniper based games, but I had a real job getting into Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts. The tutorial set this up in a similar vein to the Hitman series, and some of the main gameplay bears this out. My main issue was with how the tutorial was presented.

Firstly, I couldn't fathom how on earth the controls worked for lining up the shot for targets that were further away. There's a representation of the enemy with a distance marker... but could I work out what I was supposed to do in order to correctly hit the target? No, obviously or I wouldn't be moaning here. So I just kept shooting and altering the height of my aims until I hit the targets.

So, straight off I'm going to be at a disadvantage in the main game... But let's not worry. We move onto the second part of the tutorial, which shows you how to use different types of ammo. Again, this was confusing, with the instructions on screen, detailing how to change bullet types, not actually corresponding with what you have to actually do. So, again I was left unsure what some bullets actually did.

Not a good start - the fact I felt I needed another tutorial to walk me through the main tutorial... But let's get into the game proper. For a game that's called Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts there didn't appear to be much sniper action going on. There was a bit of jumping, climbing (both of which were frustrating and unnecessarily complicated - not to mention boring). Then some creeping around (again, like Hitman).

Review imageAt this point I switched it off and went off and did something less boring instead, only to return to it afresh later. When I returned I decided to redo the tutorial, and while some of it made more sense, it was still unnecessarily complicated control wise.

To my mind, it's just a cheap, and not very user friendly, watered down version of a Hitman game. It's planned that in December (2019) that a multiplayer patch will be added allowing you to play team death match modes online across brand new, unique maps that will test your sniping skills.

Overall I couldn't help but be more than a little disappointed.
