Louis Goldstein has written a tell-all family memoir. The book is a best-seller. But is it true? This uplifting and heartwarming, multi-generational musical explores the challenges and triumphs of an immigrant Jewish American family. This original musical reminds us that families are complicated, the truth is never clear, and forgiveness is our best hope... Broadway Records continues to bring us little known musicals that fans of musical theatre may have otherwise missed. Goldstein is a musical about family - an immigrant Jewish American family, to be precise. Music and lyrics are by Michael Roberts, with a book by Charles Schulman. The production stars Julie Benko, Amie Bermowitz, Aaron Galligan-Stierle, Megan McGinnis, Zal Owen, Sarah Beth Pfeifer and Jim Stanek. Zal Owen (who plays several parts on this recording) has a very distinct voice - his vibrato is a little distracting. In fact, when I first heard it I thought there may be an issue with the recording. Comedy is a big part of the show, and 'Visiting Your Mother' and 'Have You Met My Parents' provide more than a handful of fun moments. It's an interesting musical, but with very little to capture the imagination. The musical is sadly missing memorable songs or truly engaging themes. Having said that, the performers are all perfect in their roles. 'Sherri's Reprise' closes the recording, and shows a lot of promise... but it's just a little too late. 6 Daisy May Buy this item online
