The latest edition to Varèse Sarabande Records's CD Club range is Leonard Rosenman's score from Robocop 2 (1990). Cyborg Detroit policeman Alex Murphy is the sole officer on duty after the police force goes on strike against evil conglomerate Omni Consumer Products and its push to foreclose on the city of Detroit. Aside from dealing with the normal level of crime, Murphy must take on crime boss Cain, the spread of a dangerous new drug called "Nuke" and the attempt by psychologist Dr. Juliette Faxx to create another Robocop using a hardened criminal... Varèse Sarabande's CD Club got its official start in 1989 and over the years has released numerous fan favourites and long out of print scores. The soundtrack for Robocop 2 was composed by Leonard Rosenman (Fantastic Voyage, Beneath The Planet of the Apes, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home). This Deluxe Edition release is a huge restoration as the original score has been extended by more than forty minutes. The album contains 29 tracks (1 hr, 09 min, 59 sec). I have to admit this is one score that strangely passed me buy on its original release. There's a wonderful mix of styles and themes here from action to quiet, reflective beats. It's also a score that has aged rather well. It's more subtle than the majority of modern scores, but it's still a fresh and noteworthy collection of tracks. Once again Varèse Sarabande has done fans proud by including not only the score as it was original released, but with the inclusion of a lot more material. Sure, some of this is rather pointless, like the fanfare's, but for completists this will make a welcome addition to your soundtrack library. 7 Darren Rea Buy this item online
