MovieScore Media and CD label Kronos Records release Andre Matthias's melodic and beautiful score for Kenneth Bi’s Wish You Were Here, an intimate but dramatic film about friendship and the challenge of making peace with your past. When successful entrepreneur Yuan Yuan builds a strong rapport with one of her fans, the stories they share makes her return to her village to meet the family she had left behind. During her trip, she hopes to find peace and finally reconcile with her first husband, as well as her mother in law who drove her to her emotional limit and forced her to leave everything behind... The soundtrack to Wish You Were Here straddles the line between score and classical music. This is most evident in track like 'Tomiya', which are both reflective and engaging. Andre Matthias weaves several intricate themes throughout the album's 26 tracks (1 hr, 12 min, 01 sec), and the structure almost feels like a musical story is slowly unfolding before you. Talking about his work, Matthias said: "The music for Wish You Were Here ended up being my longest and most diverse score to date. As always with Kenneth's movies, we started early, way before pre-production when the script was being written, in fact. While this gave us time to develop many, many ideas, making sense out of everything, once in context, was a constant challenge. The music virtually took on a life of its own and guided us to wherever it wanted to go. Much like the movie itself, which underwent many changes until its final enigmatic form, writing the score became like solving a Rubik's cube. Only that we never knew what the final result was supposed to look like. We felt it, but it was hard to grasp. Now, finally, we know." Fans of the film will relish the opportunity to add this score to their collection. 7 Darren Rea Buy this item online
