Sony Music release The Best of Enemies (original motion picture soundtrack), with music by composer Marcelo Zarvos. Based on a true story, the film centres on the unlikely relationship between Ann Atwater, an outspoken civil rights activist, and C.P. Ellis, a local Ku Klux Klan leader who reluctantly co-chaired a community summit, battling over the desegregation of schools in Durham, North Carolina during the racially-charged summer of 1971. The incredible events that unfolded would change Durham and the lives of Atwater and Ellis forever... Marcelo Zarvos (The Bay, Beastly, The Chaperone, The Face of Love, Reaching for the Moon, Won't Back Down, The Words) once again delivers a wide variety of themes - the majority being melancholic, beautiful pieces. The one highlight on this 18 track (45 min, 46 sec) album is 'Organize', which is a sweet, slow track with an emotionally uplifting core. Discussing the soundtrack, Zarvos said: "The score of The Best of Enemies utilizes a lot of guitar and different types of plucked string instruments found in the American South like dulcimer, mandolin along with piano, voice, orchestral and solo cello. The film deals with the racial tension of early 1970’s North Carolina and with characters finding the common humanity on both sides of the racial divide. The music balances the grueling realities of the time period with a message of redemption." This won't be to everyone's tastes, but if mellow scores are your guilty pleasure then you'll find this to be an enjoyable affair. 7 Darren Rea Buy this item online
