Navona Records release Giovanni Piacentini's new guitar-based album, Between Worlds, which was composed almost entirely in 2018. Performed by the composer, his technical skill as a guitarist deeply informs his compositions, which employ modern elements – such as adding electronics... Lovers of guitar-based music will find plenty to enjoy on Between Worlds. Composer Giovanni Piacentini's (Chiaroscuro) own love of various musical genres can be heard throughout. You might hear echoes of Classical-era and Romantic guitar music by Mertz or Sor in one track, and post-2000's indie rock sound the next... all blended together with Piacentini's own voice and unique style. It helps too that the composer is the main performer, as the listener can hear the music presented as Piacentini intended. If you're not a fan of the guitar, then you might find it a little heavy going. However, the five-part 'Los Murmullos' introduces the flute, whilst 'Passacaglia' employs violin and viola. I have to admit to not being a huge fan of the guitar only pieces - even though I found his previous album to be immensely satisfying - but found plenty to enjoy in 'Los Murmullos'. 7 Darren Rea Buy this item online
