Plaza Mayor Company Ltd release the original soundtrack to El Complot Mongol. Mexico City, at the height of the Cold War. Filiberto Garcia is a sixty-year-old Mexican policeman. Over the course of his life he has killed people: men, women, a priest. But what he once did to help his country transform itself into something better, he now does strictly as a job. By the 1960s, the Mexican politicians have long since betrayed the Revolution. Cold, duplicitous figures who occupy offices in their suits now pull the strings. They also kill, but they never do the dirty work themselves. They need others to do it for them, and that's where Garcia, comes in... The soundtrack for El Complot Mongol is composed by Andres Sanchez Maher, Gus Reyes and Dan Zlotnik. It opens with the jazzy, upbeat 'Conspiracy Mambo'. 'Our Detective' is a beautifully mellow Spanish guitar piece. 'The Gringo Agent' is tongue in cheek, opening with a homage to Henry Mancini's instrumental theme from A Shot in the Dark (1964) - which would be repurposed from 1965-69 in the DePatie-Freleng The Inspector animated series. Over the course of this score's 26 tracks (57 min, 43 sec) there's plenty of variety from Chinese elements ('The Golden Dragon & Opium House', 'My Chinese Angel & Polish Mystery') to lounge jazz ('Taxi Reflections', 'Love in the Air', 'Feeling Young Again') and plenty of action suspense themes. Overall it's a wonderful mixed bag of styles which any fan of the film will thoroughly get a kick out of. 7 Darren Rea Buy this item online
