Following on from their 2016 debut album, Faidherbe Street, Lillabox release their latest LP, In the Moment. Lillabox are Mathieu Deranlot on cello and Alexandre Hetzel on guitar... The first thing that strikes you about Lillabox's second album, In this Moment, is just how diverse the 8 tracks (30 min, 12 sec) are. I have to admit I wasn't overly impressed by the album's opening track 'In the Moment', but from rather cliched and flat beginnings something truly engaging is born. 'The Rules' is a hauntingly beautiful track with a hypnotic core; 'Dear One' is an upbeat and memorable offering; 'Bachstep' opens with a solo cello segment hinting that this will be a classical piece, before opening up into a grungy, rock infused track; 'Could You Be' is more of a laid back indie pop track; 'Inward Chaos' is probably this album's highlight, the vocal's beautifully poured over the cello, guitar and electronics; 'Avance' is a bit of strange track, with vocals that strain through the psychedelic music; and finally, 'Pubbass' is a trippy, dreamy instrumental that rounds this album of wonderfully. 8 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
