Sony Music release the soundtrack to Pokémon Detective Pikachu with music by award-winning composer Henry Jackman. When ace private eye Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, it prompts his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu. Together the two chase clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City - a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world - they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe... The soundtrack to Pokémon Detective Pikachu is an engaging and warm collection of fluffy themes. I caught quite a few nods here and there to Alan Silvestri's work on both Back to the Future and Predator. The ending of 'Mewtwo Awakes' is one of the most obvious examples of this. This shouldn't be a huge surprise to anyone who has heard Jackman's score for The Predator (2018), in which he pretty much repurposed huge amounts of Silverstri's original music from the earlier movie. Sadly, longevity isn't build into this album. It's a score that you'll get a little pleasure from for a few weeks and then probably never revisit... unless you're a huge fan of the movie or Jackman's work in general. 'Shock to the System', I'd argue is this score's one stand out track. A beautifully reflective moment of melancholy. As diverse and interesting as it at first sounds, there's not a huge amount of depth to it. But as a throw away score for young fans of the film, this works its magic. 6 Darren Rea Buy this item online
