Sony Music release Anne Dudley's original score from The Hustle. In this comedy movie, Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson star as female scam artists, one low rent and the other high class, who team up to take down the dirty rotten men who have wronged them... Anne Dudley delivers a score that is right for the movie, full of energy and spirit, but is not quite so engaging when listened to outside of the film. Talking about the score, Dudley said: "The Hustle is based on one of my favourite films Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988) and, in a nod to this, my score takes as its starting point the music of The Hot Club of France. I’ve always found this sound both irrepressibly happy and somehow a bit louche. The driving energy of the guitar rhythms coupled with some sophisticated harmonies represent the contrasting characters of Penny (Rebel Wilson) and Josephine (Anne Hathaway), without the score having to be overbearingly ‘comic.’" It's an interesting collection of themes, but using the French instrumentation for the majority of the tracks means that it starts to sound a little to repetitive a little too quickly. However there are tracks, like 'Au Revoir', which wonderfully pair the French sound with a more traditional Hollywood theme, and it's these elements which I got the most enjoyment out of. 6 Darren Rea Buy this item online
