Milan Records, an imprint of Sony Music Masterworks, releases Nicholas Britell's score for season one of Succession. If you're a fan of Succession, loved the main theme but wished there were numerous versions of it, then you're in luck. Nicholas Britell's score for the series leans more towards classical music than your standard TV soundtrack... However, as beautiful as the main theme is, it's slightly over used here. In fact, of the album's 26 tracks (39 min, 32 sec) it at first appears that there are very few tracks that don't feature it, even if it's just a brief segment. This isn't technically true, but it does feel like that. This is mainly because the tracks that heavily feature the theme are concentrated towards the start of the album. It might have delivered a more balanced and varied feel if these tracks had been separated and carefully woven throughout the album. Talking about the release, Britell said: "I am so excited to be releasing this music from season one of Succession. The score features a juxtaposition of strings, winds, brass, pianos, odd electronic textures, 808 bass, and hip-hop beats. From the earliest stages of working on the show, I hoped for the music to have a sense of old-world gravitas, while also feeling strange and - at times - absurd." While the music is incredibly engaging, the reliance on the main theme soon starts to grate. 6 Darren Rea Buy this item online
