Plaza Mayor Company Ltd release the soundtrack to Bacurau with music composed by brothers Mateus Alves and Tomaz Alves Sousza. After the death of her grandmother, Teresa comes home to her matriarchal village in a near-future Brazil to find a succession of sinister events that mobilizes all of its residents...

The soundtrack to Bacurau is certainly original. The score is eerie in places, with tracks like 'Se For, Vá Na Paz' really getting under your skin. It's not, however, a score that will be enjoyed by everyone... in fact if you really love this I'd say you are in the minority. It's one that will only really appeal to fans of the film who were intrigued by the score, it's not easy to get your head around on its own merits.

The music is designed in a bid to explore the collective feel of the village which gives the film its name - its inhabitants and customs - through orchestration and musical themes which evoke Brazil’s northeast. At the same time it attempts to convey the menace that this village faces, in an indeterminate future time, filled with analog noise and synthesized retro sounds.

You'll either love it or dislike it - I doubt there's any middle ground here. While it's not an easy listening experience, it's still great that Plaza Mayor Company Ltd are releasing soundtracks that fans might not otherwise get the chance to own and enjoy.
