Gabriel Yared's score for Paradise War is released via Plaza Mayor Company. In 1984, searching an escape from the superficiality of modern civilization, Bruno Manser travels into the jungles of Borneo. Encountering the nomadic Penan tribe, Manser embarks on an adventure that changes his life forever. When the existence of the Penan is threatened by relentless deforestation, Manser takes up the fight against logging... Eventually, it costs him everything. The movie is based on a true story...

You can file Paradise War: The Story of Bruno Manser under beautifully uplifting soundtracks... or, to put it another way, another work of art from composer Gabriel Yared (Adam Resurrected; Belle du Seigneur; The Happy Prince; Lisa; Not Afraid, Not Afraid; The Promise).

The album contains 21 tracks (40 min, 55 sec) of heart wrenchingly emotive themes that will stick with you for a long time to come. I've been listening to this for over a month and I'm still finding little pieces dotted about that suddenly become my new favourite segments.

There are quite a few themes (most notably in tracks like 'The Rivers Have Names' and 'Paradise War') that reminded me of fantasy scores like Ilan Eshkeri's work on Stardust; Rob Simonsen's music for The Age of Adaline; and Jason Graves's score for the virtual reality game Moss.

It's a truly impressive and immersive score that's up there with the composer's best work.
