MovieScore Media release the original score for Torpedo, composed by Hannes de Maeyer. Directed by Sven Huybrechts, the movie is set during WWII and tells the story of a gang of Flemish rebels with a secret mission: they have to sail from Congo to the United States with a hijacked German U-boat carrying a cargo with which the Allies might win the war...

There's a patriotic feel to Hannes de Maeyer's score for Torpedo. It's feels a little like Saving Private Ryan (John Williams) with a hint of Independence Day (David Arnold). From the world of video games I also caught flashes of Michael Giacchino's output for the Medal of Honor series as well as Stephen Harwood and David McGarry music for Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 (both of which are Williams-esque in scope). But don't for one second think this is cliched or spends its entire time paying homage to other composer's work. De Maeyer delivers an epic score, packed with original themes, that will send shivers down your spine.

The album contains 26 tracks (57 min, 34 sec) and it's impressive how much the composer shoehorns in here. There isn't a wasted note, no atmospheric filler music, just action themes and wonderfully emotional melancholic moment ('Sacrifice' being one of the shining examples).

Those that love the music of Williams will instantly feel right at home here. De Maeyer gives each song the same attention to detail, layering the music to deliver a truly rewarding listening experience. The end result is a memorable and emotionally enriching score.
