The sophomore full length LP from Post Animal, Forward Motion Godyssey, is released via Polyvinyl Record Co. The alt-prog band mine inspiration from genres as diverse as electronic and psych-rock... Opener 'Your Life Away' is reminiscent of Chicago's output, mainly down to the similar vocal qualities. Oddly enough, Post Animal are based in Chicago. The track ends in a similar way to 'Duke's End' from the album Duke by Genesis. The next track, 'Post Animal', is a little more glam rock, but still steeped in late '70s / early '80s nostalgia. 'Schedule' is more laid back and more '70s pop. So, already, the first three tracks are wildly different stylistically, which is a good thing and certainly refreshing in this day and age... but it doesn't stop there. 'Fitness' feels a little like Jefferson Airplane's 'White Rabbit', if Chicago had written and produced it. Other notable tracks include the instrumental electronic 'The Whole' and the rock opera feel of 'Sifting'. One thing you can't accuse the band of is getting stuck in a rut. There's a charm here that's missing from so many modern, manufactured groups. The throw back to '70s rock is welcomed, but it's more than that. There's an energy and love for producing something new and exciting that runs through the entire album. 8 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
