The Orielles's new LP, Disco Volador, is released through Heavenly Recordings. This release sees the 4-piece showcasing their sonic horizon to its outer limits as astral travellers, hitching a ride on the melodic skyway to evade the space-time continuum through a sharp collection of progressive strato-pop symphonies... The Orielles know their dance music, and take us on a nostalgic trip through cinematic samba, '70s disco, deep funk boogies, danceable grooves and even '90s acid house. That's quite an accomplishment given that they manage to deliver their own unique spin that sees everything blend together smoothly. There's a hint of The Cardigans on tracks like 'Whilst The Flowers Look'. Your enjoyment of the 10 tracks (43 min, 51 sec) may hinge, however, on whether or not you get on with Esme Dee Hand Halford's vocals. At times they are at odds - clashing even - with the the instruments. It's an interesting album which casts its net wide in both genre and time frame. 7 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
