Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari is the latest musical initiative of Toundra, the instrumental rock band from Spain. This is not just a soundtrack to the quintessential German silent horror film directed by Robert Wiene, which turns 100 this year (2020), it also acts as a dialogue with the listener with the intention of questioning ideas like manipulation, freedom and human nature itself...

It's not overly important, or necessary, that you've seen Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari to enjoy Toundra's new score for the 1990 German horror movie - it works wonderfully as a standalone piece. Obviously, to get the full experience you'll want to play the movie with the soundtrack included (thank you YouTube). You'll be forced to agree that it packs quite a punch and works well to not only heighten the onscreen action, but it also brings it up to date for a modern audience.

The album contains 7 tracks (1 hr, 12 min, 33 sec) and is broken down into the opening titles and six acts. Personally, I love it when modern composers go back and score old movies, especially when they do such a good job - as Joe Kraemer did with Sunrise, and as Toundra do here.
