Bath, UK based Littlemen deliver Americana / roots-rock reminiscent of Tom Petty or Bruce Springsteen on their new album It's a Beautiful Thing... My first thought when listening to the album opener, 'The Girl With The Red Blouse' was that they had an air of James about them. But, as the 11 songs (46 min 48 sec) rumble on, there's a harder rock edge that shines through. The guitar solo on 'Moving On' stands out as an obvious highlight. The harmonica and guitar bring forth the sounds of American country on 'Walking'... and it's then you start to realise that the band is currently on the move, reluctant to be pigeonholed in any one genre. This, for me was a refreshing change and insured that it was an album that not only did I come back to numerous time in the weeks before I started writing the review, but is certainly one I know I'll return to again in the future. A british band that can deliver a unique Americana sound? What's not to like? 8 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
