Working Men's Club release their self-titled debut album through Heavenly Recordings. Armed with drum machine, synth, pedal and icy stare, Working Men’s Club are named after the wood panelled, community-run venues 18-year-old band leader and singer Sydney Minsky-Sargeant used to sneak into under age... Growing up in the town of Todmorden in West Yorkshire provided Sydney Minsky-Sargeant with all the inspiration required for Working Men's Club's debut LP. "There’s not much going on, not much stuff to do as a teenager" he says. "It’s quite isolated. And it can get quite depressing being in a town where in the winter it gets light at nine in the morning and dark at four". The 10 tracks (47 min, 29 sec) on Working Men's Club use dated, familiar equipment to offer a retro sound, yet the music is fresh and modern. It's pretty obvious that this isn't just a thrown together album. Minsky-Sargeant has lovingly crafted this project from start to finish and the talent shines through. If you're looking for an engaging, upbeat collection of modern electronic tunes, you may just have found what you're looking for with Working Men's Club. 7 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
