Orlando Weeks's latest release, A Quickening, is released via Play it Again Sam. The album was created with the help of Weeks’s old friend Nic Nell, who produced, engineered and mixed the LP. The pair collaborated on the music that accompanied Weeks’s 2012 graphic novel, Young Colossus... A Quickening is a delightfully easy album to warm to. The 11 songs (38 min, 53 sec) rattle along at a cracking pace, with the whole LP being made up of mellow indie tracks. There's a hint of Paul Simon in 'Moon's Opera', but for the majority of the tracks Weeks sounds very similar in style to Morten Harket (A-Ha). While it's unlikely to set your world on fire, it's certainly an interesting diversion which you'll get a lot out of for a few months. Beautifully produced, with some real thought going into guest instruments (the use of horns on 'None too Tough' is inspired), it's certainly an album worth giving a chance. 7 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
