WaterTower Music release the soundtrack for the HBO documentary film Showbiz Kids, featuring new music by the scoring unit that is father-and sons team Jeff Tweedy, Spencer Tweedy, and Sammy Tweedy. The film is written and directed by former child actor Alex Winter (Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Panama Papers), who relies on the perspectives of many of his peers to explore the complexities of growing up under the glare of Hollywood’s spotlight, refusing to shy away from the more difficult truths about the industry. Winter’s commitment to creating an honest representation of a complicated industry stems from his own childhood in show business, beginning as a child actor on Broadway at the age of ten...

The soundtrack to Showbiz Kids is interesting for the fact that it doesn't really feel like a soundtrack at all. It's almost like an instrumental folk album. Occasionally it's a little country, but mostly its just a great collection of interesting themes... although they do tend to be on the short side and end in a manner that makes them feel like music cues that could be slotted in anywhere in the movie.

'All the Bad Things', for example, has no real theme to speak of (although it's a rich and multi-layered piece) and the repetitive nature of its oscillating chords is quite hypnotic.

Overall, this is an interesting album which houses quite a few engaging themes. However, if you're not a fan of folk music you may find this a little heavy going.
