Douglas Olsen has been a busy trumpeter in the New England area during the past quarter-century where he has been featured in a variety of jazz settings. 2¢ is his new bop and Latin Jazz infused album... Dizzy Gillespie’s 'Algo Bueno' (also known as 'Woody’n You') is one of the highlights of Douglas Olsen's 2¢. It's a song that fits in wonderfully with Olsen's original recordings. There's a little bit of everything thrown into the mix, making this a jazz release that's hard to pass by. 'Rat-Race' feels like a nod and a wink to composer Henry Mancini, and for me represented one of the album's highlights. While Olsen's trumpet / flugelhorn takes centre stage, that doesn't mean he steals the limelight. Over the course of these 9 pieces (52 min, 09 sec) each instrument gets its moment to shine. A lovingly crafted jazz album that is hard to resist. 8 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
