Micko & The Mellotronics debut LP, ½ dove - ½ pigeon, is available through Landline Records. The LP kicks off on the right note with 'Noisy Neighbours', an upbeat, tongue in cheek indie rock track. I couldn't help but be reminded of Tommy Scott's (Space) vocals when listening to this. There are also Pulp-esque elements that creep into the lyrics. The Space similarities are more obvious on the second track 'Psychedelic Shirt', which "borrows" the sound to the point that you could be forgiven for thinking that it is one of their singles. Other tracks of note include 'The Finger', which is a post-punk track that is catchy and engaging. 'You Killed My Father' is a more stripped back affair which slowly builds to give way to a rock track. 'Sick and Tired' is another highlight. A memorable track which draws you in. While, on balance, I really enjoyed this album, the similarities to Space were just a little too distracting. 7 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
