East London based Yore release their debut self titled album via Flat Five Records. An eclectic mix of guest artists feature on the record including Mellah, Nuha Ruby Ra, Black Gold Buffalo, Rakel Leifsdottir of Dream Wife, Katie Drew of White Flowers, Panacea, Rusalka, and Milan Monk of Haha Sounds Collective... Yore is an album that feels out of time. While I enjoyed the tracks here, there was nothing that stood out and grabbed my attention; nothing that made me want to go back for a second listen (even though I did return to it many times). The 10 songs (38 min, 24 sec) amble along well, but I couldn't help feeling I'd heard it all before. It feels like a wonderfully effortless collection (an art form that is hard to master when it's obvious that a lot of blood, sweat and tears have gone into its creation) but this might be why I was left feeling unsure on whether I enjoyed it or not. It's well produced and everything, on the surface, looks good. It's just not an album that I'd listen to again anytime soon. I listened to this on and off for several weeks and I honestly can't remember a single song. 6 Nick Smithson |
