Shanghai Restoration Project (SRP), the Brooklyn based electronic duo of Dave Liang and Sun Yunfan, release their latest project, Brave New World Symphony, via Undercover Culture Music...

Brave New World Symphony follows on from R.U.R. (2017) and Flashbacks in a Crystal Ball (2019), adding much to Shanghai Restoration Project's (SRP) reputation for fusing pop, electronic and classical music to deliver their unique, quirky sound.

SRP’s genre-bending, border-traversing, retro-futuristic soundscape often uses poetic melodies to draw audiences into imaginary settings where unexpected adventures unfold with a dissonant and polyrhythmic palette. The opening 'R0' sounds like something the BBC Radiophonic Workshop would have released in the '70s. The album then, slowly expands to showcase a range of electronically manipulated tracks that have a ring of Orbital's '90s output.

It's an interesting and engaging album that you can dip in and out of just as easily as listen to from start to finish. The electronic soundscapes are occasionally jarring, often catchy and engaging... but never dull.
