What The Dub?! is a multiplayer party game where players overdub missing dialogue from hilariously awful B-movies, woefully outdated PSAs, and bizarre industrial films, with their own witty (or just plain stupid) dubs. Players watch the dubs and vote on the best one. The player with the highest score at the end of the game wins. It's just that easy...
What The Dub?! is a fun party game which, while a little limited, is a blast to play. There are numerous other similar party games on the market, most of which have more than one style of game in order to keep things fresh. What the Dub?! is simply a case of watching the clip and coming up with the funniest, cleverest... or just plain weirdest dialogue for the clip. There are plenty of customisable options (which you'll find very useful as the defaults make the game feel a little flat). You can change the amount of time you have to come up with your answer (once everyone has inputted their quote the game skips to the next step). You can also change how long everyone has to decide which answer they think is the best. And if you're finding the game too long or too short, you can change the number of rounds.
You can play with between 3-12 players. Your quotes are replayed via text to speech - which works well for the most part. In addition you can add sound effects from a menu to provide a little more fun. Unfortunately the PS4 is not the best way to play this with friends online. The official website recommends setting up a Zoom meeting and then pointing your camera at your TV set. We did this, with varying results. We ended up having to turn the brightness down on the TV so that online players could see the picture clearly, but the TV in our room was incredibly dark. Another hurdle was that we needed an additional mobile device in order to play the game ourselves. One of the problems that most of the people playing it with me noticed was that there's no way to replay the clip. As they're so short, it would have been a good idea to have had them repeat while players were on their countdown time to input their quote.
Another issue is that our group spent a little time chatting before playing and a few joking private issues were brought up... that meant that the majority of the quotes tried to shoehorn these issues into the quotes. And we all did this for the majority of the rounds. So there is a good chance that if you all know each other well that some of your personal in jokes will creep into the game. Which is fun... to start with, but soon gets old. Overall a fun, yet short use game that works best if you're all in the same room together. 7 Darren Rea Buy this item online
