Scoring Records brings us Enis Rotthoff's whimsical score for Love Sarah. The movie follows a young woman who wishes to fulfill her mother's dream of opening her own bakery in Notting Hill, London. To do this, she enlists the help of an old friend and her grandma... Enis Rotthoff delivers a sweet score for Love Sarah, which stays just the right side of twee. It would have been so easy to have veered into over sentimentality territory, but thankfully Rotthoff works his magic to give us an album full of uncomplicated, memorable themes. At points I was reminded of some of the melancholic scores James Horner released in the '80s and '90s (Bicentennial Man; The Land Before Time; Casper) - all incredible soundtracks for their time. The only really low point was the rather cheesy song 'For the Love of You'. I have to say that on balance I did rather enjoy this release, even though it's a little too samey throughout. I was also slightly disappointed that there's no engaging grand finale - it just seems to end with a whimper. 7 Darren Rea Buy this item online
