RRP: £13.99
Release Date: 22 January 2021

Peruvian artist Caye Castagnetto releases his debut album, Leap Second, on Castle Face. Influenced by a life split between Lima, London, and Twentynine Palms, this is a personal and hard to classify album. It's a collage of samples Castagnetto recorded with different artists and musicians, including Beatrice Dillon and the late Aileen Bryant, that spans 5 years in the making...

This is not an album I'd ever want to listen to again. It's experimental, very self-indulgent, and really has nothing to offer to the listener. This is Caye Castagnetto getting lost in himself and layer upon layer of sampling, mixing and electronic manipulation.

Production wise I totally appreciate what he was going for. But my question is: Why? Why alienate yourself by releasing songs that sound like your making them up on the fly? That you have such contempt for your audience that you don't think about anyone else but satisfying your own ego?

Some might find it enjoyable, but I just spent the entire time thinking "What on earth is this? And why am I wasting my time listening to it?". This is the sort of project that can only be created by someone who has either lost their mind or has taken a lot of illegal substances.
