The Last Exit

Artist: Still Corners
Label: Wrecking Light Records
RRP: £13.99
Release Date: 22 January 2021

Still Corners release their fifth studio album via Wrecking Light Records. The Last Exit is a sweeping album about the open road. Consisting of eleven songs with organic instrumentation, romantic guitar lines, spacious drums and the wistful melancholy voice of Tessa Murray, The Last Exit evokes the vast space of the desert and rolling unconcerned skies...

The Last Exit is host to single 'White Sands, which tells a classic ghost story of a phantom who roams the dunes and highways scaring travellers as they cross the land. The song, like the album, feels a little out of time. There's the spirit of Ry Cooder on tracks like 'Bad Town'.

The album is pleasant enough, but a little too dry for me. These 11 songs (42 min, 53 sec) didn't really leave much of an impression on me. And, while I played it quite a lot over a two week period, I didn't feel like I was any closer to knowing it at the end of those two weeks as I was on the first play through.

While it's not an album I'll return to again in the near future, it is one that you can imagine keeping you company on long journeys.
