Stop The Hate

Artist: Femi Kuti
Label: Partisan Records
RRP: £13.99
Release Date: 05 February 2021

Legendary activist and Afrobeat originator, Fela Kuti, used his music to lament social injustices and political corruption in his native Nigeria. Fela’s legacy spans decades and genres, touching on jazz, pop, funk, hip-hop, rock, and beyond. Fela’s son Femi releases Stop the Hate via Partisan Records. The LP is steeped in the tradition of Afrobeat invented by Fela and honours Fela in a traditionally fun, sharply political, and affirming way...

Femi Kutis's Stop The Hate is a powerful political album which should strike a chord with everyone no matter where in the world they are. The sharp political messages are backed up with energetic and powerful afrobeats.

Mixing afro roots with jazz delivers surprisingly satisfying results and at times it feels like the listener is embarking on an experimental journey with the artist as he feels his way through the album.

While it won't appeal to everyone, you can't get past the fact that this is an engaging and deliciously original release.
